Welcome to Nimbus Two Thousand, my blog. As you have probably guessed from the title, I am a really big fan of the Harry Potter septology. That's why almost all of the posts on this site are Harry Potter related. However, Muggles (those poor people who don't get Harry Potter) are also welcome. The 2004 Official Vernon Dursley Award

This is the week that a special few of the most prosaic Muggles all across the country recieved word that they had been nominated for the Official Vernon Dursley Awards of 2004 and would be competing in the finals.
The are all extremely talanted and it will be very difficult to determine which one will recieve the award, a life-size, solid gold gilded figure of Vernon Dursley, the wealthy, civilized, prosaic man who inspired the award.
Please take the time to vote for one of these persons or organizations that you think is worthy of the prestigous award.

Harry Potter Clues: No Muggles Allowed

For those of you who appreciate the "subtle science and exact art" of HP Sleuthing:This is for discussing the clues that Jo Rowling has hidden in the Harry Potter books, particularly those mentioned in The Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter by Galadriel Waters. If you've solved a clue, found a new clue, or need help solving one, post it as a comment here. If you're not an HP Sleuth, feel free to check out the clues anyway. Something Wicked This Way Comes

I went to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on the opening night, so I had to stand in line for nearly two hours. It was worth it, though. Alfonso Cauron did a really good job with the film. At first I was like, "What happened to Hogwarts?" But after I got used to it I really like the darker look. (In fact, I liked it so much that I went back to see it again four more times. Siriusly.) The cast was really talanted, and the trio have definately improved. I especially liked Emma Thompson as Tralawney. However, I was very disappointed with the new Dumbledore; he wasn't half as good as Richard Harris. But Aunt Marge was hilarious. lol. What did you think of the movie?

The Lord of the Rings

I put off watching the Lord of the Rings movies for a long time. But thanks to Caitlin, I finally watched them, and I have to say they're the greatest thing since sliced bread! I love those movies! I was afraid they wouldn't be as good as the books, because I didn't think they could do some of the special effects. But although they had to cut out a good deal (think how long it would be if they included everything!), I thought the effects were amazing! The Ring Wraiths were not disappointing at all, they looked just like I imagioned they would. And I loved the battle scenes; they were so realistic.

So, since I have so many posts about Harry Potter, here is a place to discuss the Lord of the Rings books and movies. Let's hope it doesn't get shoved aside amid all this Harry Potter stuff! ~Manwathiel~

In case none of you have noticed, when it comes to books I'm as bad as Hermione! I'm an avid reader and if I'm not at home, reading my favourite book, you'll probably find me haunting the libarary or browsing the shelves of Barnes and Noble. Some of my favourite books are listed under my blogger profile, but I have many more and here I've supplied a short summary of each book as well. While visiting Mugglenet.com recently, I noticed that they have a link for funny quotes from the Harry Potter books. I was deeply amused and have decided to do the same. Eragon

Those of you who have enjoyed Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings will also like Eragon, part one of the Inheritance trilogy by Christopher Paolini. Chris, who was, by the way, homeschooled, wrote Eragon when he graduated from high school at age fifteen. Eragon is a bit like Lord of the Rings, and a bit like Harry Potter, only it's not. lol. It's kind of hard to explain, but I can assure you that it is a very good book. I first read it earlier this year, and I couldn't put it down! It's exciting, fast paced, and well written. Actually, it beat some of the Harry Potter books on the bestseller list! If you haven't read it, I advise you to do so at once. If you have read it, and would like to comment on it, please do. I'd love to hear what you thought of it!

Also, they're going to make Eragon into a movie soon, which will be released around Christmas 2005. I'll post more news about it in the comments section as it becomes available.

Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!

Those of you who have read the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone will remember Dumbledore's speech at the start of term banquet: "Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!" I liked that line very much and have decided to use it in place of the more common word, 'miscellaneous'. So, this is just what I said: miscellaneous (or Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! A Note to All You Muggles

If you're a Muggle (not a drop of magical blood in their veins), you might not know what some of the things mentioned in this blog are. That's why I've provided this post, which translates some of the Harry Potter terms used on Nimbus 2000.

Nimbus 2000 is the type of broom that Harry owns in books one through three. The Nimbus 2000 is sleek and shiny, with a mahogany handle. It has a long tail of neat, straight twigs and Nimbus Two Thousand written in gold near the top.

Professor Severus Snape is the Potions teacher at Hogwarts School of Wwitchcraft and Wizardry. During their first Potions lesson, he gave a speech that included the words, "I don't expect many of you will understand the subtle science and exact art of potion making."

Vernon Dursley is the most Muggle-like Muggle ever. Most unfortunately, he is also Harry's uncle.

Floo Powder is used by witches and wizards to travel. To use it, simply toss it into the fire. The flames turn bright green. You step right into the flames, and say, very clearly, the name of the place that you want to go. It doesn't hurt you; the flames actually feel like a warm breeze. You have to be careful not to squirm, though, or you might accidentally fall out of the wrong fireplace before you reach your destination.

Apparating is disappearing from one place and reappearing almost instantly in another. Witches and wizards who are of age must pass a test in order to Apparate. That's because Apparition isn't easy, and when it's not done properly, it can lead to nasty complications. In fact, just the other day the Department of Magical Transportation had to fine a couple of people for Apparating without a license. They splinched themselves--left half of themselves behind. So, of course, they were stuck; they couldn't move either way. They had to wait for the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad to sort them out. Meant a fair bit of paperwork, I can tell you, what with all the Muggles who spotted the body parts they'd left behind.

Hermione Granger is Harry's friend. She spends almost all of her free time in the Hogwarts library.

Madam Pince is the Hogwarts school librarian. She's known for brandishing a feather duster at students who wander into the Restricted Section or eat chocolate in the library.

You have to understand that, because I'll be adding to my blog frequently, I can't explain all of the Harry Potter terms used on this blog, as I don't even know what they'll be yet! My best advice would be to read the Harry Potter books and then come back to this blog. You'll be amazed! ~Manwathiel~
